invites you to its
National Consultations on the Establishment of a Regional Framework for the Protection of Traditional Knowledge, Folklore (Traditional Cultural Expressions) and Genetic Resources (TKFGR) |
The principal objectives of the Consultations will be to identify categories of TKFGR within Trinidad and Tobago and to solicit you recommendations for the formulation of a draft instrument or regional framework for the protection of TKFGR.
There will be presentations and discussions on the "Protection of Traditional Knowledge, Folklore (Traditional Cultural Expressions) and Genetic Resources".
The 10 Key Issues to be discussed include:-
- Scope of the subject matter to be protected;
- Beneficiaries;
- Objectives for protection;
- Forms of misappropriation;
- Exceptions and limitations to rights;
- Duration of Protection;
- Gaps in existing Intellectual Property system;
- Sanctions or penalties to apply;
- Division between international; regional and national regulations and
- Treatment of foreign rights holders/beneficiaries.

- Mt. Irvine Bay Hotel, Tobago on Thursday 8th October, 2009 from 9:00 AM to 1:15 PM
